The 2012 Annual Holiday Open House
will be held November 10th in the Park Visitors Center

2011 Holiday Open House Celebration was a great success!

Each year we decorate the Christmas tree with homemade ornaments.   Partners who could were in 1830 period dress.
Hot Apple cider and home made cookies were served.  Children and adults made holiday ornaments, one to hang on our tree and one to take home with them.  Click here for Party Slide Show.

Holiday ornament 2011   Completed Holiday Tree 2011

The holiday season was celebrated by pioneers but we find very little written about just how their homes were decorated in the early 1800's and especially if there was a Christmas tree. It is thought that they brought pine limbs into the house but we do know that if there were trees they would be very worried about fires in the cabin...so each year the cabin lifestyle is celebrated in the visitor's center with a tree with no lights of any kind, and primarily homemade ornaments.

In 2011 we were pleased to have several guests drop in.
Thanks to all who helped with this event and to Dawn Niner for Chairing it.
